Funding & Transparency
The Border Chronicle is an independent, nonprofit newsroom supported by readers, members, foundations, and other charitable contributors. Our journalism is made possible by people and organizations that believe communities deserve independent, deeply reported journalism about the U.S.-Mexico borderlands. We are committed to transparency about who supports our work and to maintaining a clear separation between fundraising and editorial decision-making.
Our funders and editorial independence
We believe readers should know who helps make our journalism possible. We publicly recognize foundations, organizations and other institutional funders that provide $5,000 or more in support to The Border Chronicle during our fiscal year.
We maintain a separation between fundraising and editorial operations. Our development and fundraising activities help sustain the newsroom, but fundraising considerations do not determine the substance of our journalism.
We do not alter, suppress or promote reporting because of a donor’s interests or preferences. A funder’s decision to support our work does not guarantee favorable coverage, access to our journalists or influence over our reporting.
Reader support
Our readers are at the heart of what makes The Border Chronicle possible. Memberships and individual contributions give us the freedom to follow the stories that matter, report deeply and independently, and remain accountable to our communities and our readers, not to a single funder or corporate owner.
Every membership and contribution helps us keep doing this work: reporting from the borderlands with depth, accuracy and humanity.
If you value independent journalism about the U.S.-Mexico border, we invite you to become part of The Border Chronicle. Your support makes this reporting possible.
