A road trip through the American West leads to a haunting lesson about a past atrocity, plus a community-led solution in Mexicali to fight climate change. And, a new militarized zone in Yuma.
Thank you very much for your insightful coverage of the border area. Regarding the Sand Creek massacre, I recall being shocked when I learned about that (along with many of my contemporaries), in college in the 1970s. There’s a chapter about it in a book called “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee”, by Dee Brown. I’m certainly not blaming you for not knowing about it, but I find it heartbreaking that more people don’t know. The book has been in continuous publication since 1970. Again, thank you for your reporting; I’m a regular reader and listener.
Hi Arch, thank you for your words and for reading! I am very familiar with the title "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" but have never read it. I have it on my reading list now, for sure. Thanks.
