The barriers to using the app mentioned, don't appear to mention languages, unless I missed something in all the references to others' work. It is documented and published in a professional journal (not journalism piece) that 20% of border crosser in 2014-2019 in the Tucson Sector were migrants whose first language was an Indigenous language from Meso-America and South America (Source, Indigenous Languages Office, (Chance) https://chance.amstat.org/2021/09/indigenous/ . As well, 20% of detained children border wide held in S. Florida were primarily speakers of an Indigenous language (soure: Americans for Immigrant Justice) Guatemalans and Mexicans constitute the two largest migration nationalities in the US now for some 10 years or more.
The vast majority of Indigenous language speakers do not read their language. CBP and Border Patrol is therefore forcing them to try and use Spanish regardless of its ineffective an inaccurate use for a legal process. This is 2024, five years after that data was published. My question is, Why are reporters ignoring Indigenous peoples?
